Scott County, Virginia Deed Book 10, p. 162

This deed made the 7th day of March 1853 between William Hammons and Mary his wife of the
county of Scott and State of Virginia of the first part and Anderson Hammons of the county and state
aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that in consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars the said
William Hammons and Mary- his wife, doth grant bargain and sell until the said Anderson Hammonds
and his heirs, all that tract and parcel of land, lying and being in the county of Scott and State of
Virginia being a part of Hugh McClung's 43,000 acre tract and is the same land sold by James
Francisco Attorney in fact for Hugh McClung, John McClung, Calvin McClung- said William
Hammons and conveyed by deed bearing date the 23rd day of March 1846 and of record in the clerk's
office of the county court of Scott County containing one hundred and fifty acres be the same more or
less and is bounded as follows. Beginning on line poplars sassafras and dogwood on the East bank of a
small branch on Thomas Templeton's line, then up the branch and north 23 poles to a white oak on the
west side of the branch N22 E129 poles to a double chesnut on a ridge N45 W11 poles to a cucumber,
then, dew North 45 poles to a large Spanish oak on top of Chesnut ridge. Thence along said ridge N78 E29
poles to a lynn & 2 dogwoods. N45 E17 poles to a lynn, N12 E48 poles to a large poplar on a path
N55 E40 poles to a chesnut, dogwood and poplar on a path N55 E40 poles to a chesnut, dogwood and
poplar, then leaving the top of said ridge S63 E crossing a hollar 50 poles to a large white oak and
dogwood comes to Williamses land on top of a ridge, then along, Williamses line & the ridge. S35 W20
poles to a large black oak & two small hickorys S20 W40 poles to black Lotus S55 W17 poles to a
black gum S18 poles to cucumber & 2 hickorys S35 W37 poles to a chesnut & linwood S8 E 68 poles
to a black oak & poplar S7 W27 poles to a black walnut by a high rock, S22 W7 poles to a chesnut and
sowerwood on Amos Templetons corner, then along his line S26 W38 poles to a double chesnut at said
Templetons corner, then along Amos Templetons due west 110 poles to the Beginning; to have and to
hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said ones & heirs the said
Anderson Hammons, and his heirs forever. And the said William Hammons and Mary --- his wife for
themselves and their heirs __ and defend the said tract or parcel of land with all of its appurtenances
unto the said Anderson Hammons and his heirs; against the claim or claims of all persons whomsoever,

Scott County to wit;
I James P. Carter, a justice of the peace in the county aforesaid and state Virginia, to certify that
William Hammons whos name is signed to the writing above, bearing date the 7th day of March 1853
acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand the 21st day of May
1853.

Scott County to wit;
We James P. Carter & John D. Templeton, justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the
State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Maryann the wife of William Hammons parties to a certain
deed baring date of the 7th day of March 1853 and hereunto annexed; personally appeared before us in
our county aforesaid, and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband & having the deed
fully explained to her the said Maryann Hammons, acknowledged the same to her act and deed and
declared that she the said Maryann Hammons acknowledge the said writing to be her act and declared
that she has willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same, and she wished not to retract it. Given
under our hands this 21st day of May 1853

This deed for land from William Hammons & wife, to Anderson Hammons, certified to have been
acknowledged before two magistrates was read in the clerks office of the County Court of Scott County
Va on this 10th August 1853 & admitted to record.
