Scott County, Virginia Deed Book 5, p. 213

This Indenture made this twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and thirty six, between James Fulcher of Scott County and State of Virginia of the one part and
Absalom Hammons Jr. of the County and state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said
James Fulcher for and in consideration of the sum of eighty seven dollars currant money of the United
States to him in hand grant the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do grant bargain and sell unto
the said Absalom Hammons Jr. a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Scott
aforesaid on the Copper ridge, on the south side of Clinch river containing fifty acres be the same more
or less and bounded as follows Beginning at a chesnut and dogwood on the north side of Copper ridge,
there S32 W70 poles to a poplar, N45 W40 poles to a poplar, N30 W20 poles to a poplar N40 E18
poles to a black oak N33 W88 poles to a buckeye and chesnut N49 E43 poles to a beech on the east
side of a spring branch thence south 36 E135 poles to the beginning, it being one of the tracts of land
lately given up by John Bays in a schedule with all it appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract
or parcel of land with all it appurtenances unto the said Absalom Hammons Jr. and his heirs to the sole
use and behoof of him the said Absalom Hammons Jr. and his heirs forever. And the said James Fulcher
for himself and his heirs doth covenant with the said Absalom Hammons Jr. and his heirs that he the
said James Fulcher and his heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said
Absalom Hammons Jr. and his heirs against the claims of heirs the said Fulcher and his heirs & all
persons claiming under him shall warrant and will forever defend in witness whereof the said James
Fulcher hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal, the day and year first above written

This Indenture of bargain and sale for land from James Fulcher to Absalom Hammons Jr. was
acknowledged before the undersigned clerk of Scott County in the Clerk Office on this 25th day of
March 1836 by the said Fulcher to be his act and deed and admitted to record.
