Scott County, Virginia Deed Book 3, p. 488

This Indenture of bargain and sale made & entered into this 11th March 1829. Between Alford Prewett
and Nancy his wife of the County of Scott and the State of Virginia of the one part and Absalom
Hammons Junr of the County & State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Alford Prewett
and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of one hundred dollars lawful money of Virginia to them in
hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth grant bargain and sell unto the aforesaid
Absalom Hammons Jr. a certain tract of or parcel of land lying and being in Scott County on Copper
Creek containing thirty acres be the same more or less & bounded as follows to wit. Beginning on a
small sugar tree a corner to Joshua Pendleton & with his line N18 E28 poles to a walnut and buckeye
on the north bank of said creek, thence up the same and beginning therein N79 E28 poles to a poplar
and buckeye sapling N70 E66 poles to a small black oak a corner to Reuben Mathews and with his line
N12 W34 poles to a white oak S73 W150 poles to the beginning with all its appurtenances to have and
to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the sole use and behoof of the said
Absalom Hammons Jr. and his heirs forever and the said Alford Prewett and Nancy his wife for
themselves and their heirs moreover warrant and defend the title of the said mentioned tract or parcel of
land to the said Absalom Hammons Jr. from the claims of ourselves & our heirs & all other claims
whatsoever in testimony whereof we have hereunto have hereunto subscribed our names and affixed
our seals, the day and year above written

This Indenture of bargain and sale from Alfred Prewett to Absalom Hammons was
acknowledged in court by the said Alfred Prewett to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
