Scott County, Virginia Deed Book 3, p. 126

This Indenture of bargain & sale made & entered into this 23rd day of June 1825. Between Absalom
Hammonds & his wife Mary of the County of Scott & State of Virginia of the one part & John McIver
of the County & state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Absalom Hammons & his
wife Mary for & in consideration of the sum of forty five dollars lawful money of Virginia to them in
hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth grant bargain and sell unto the aforesaid
John McIver a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in Scott County on Copper Creek containing
thirty acres be the same more or less & bounded as follows to wit Beginning on a small sugar tree a
corner of Joshua Pendleton & with his line N18 E28 poles to a walnut and buckeye on the north bank
of said creek thence up the same & beginning therein N79 E28 poles to a poplar and buckeye sapling
N70 E66 poles to a small black oak a corner to Reuben Matthews & with his line N12 W34 poles to a
white oak S73 W150 poles to the beginning, with all its appurtenances to have & to hold the said tract
or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the sole use & behoof of the said John McIver & his heirs
forever & the said Absalom Hammons & his wife Mary for themselves & their heirs do moreover
warrant and defend the title of the said mentioned tract or parcel of land (to the said McIver) from the
claims of myself & heirs && all other claims whatsoever in testimony whereof we have hereunto
subscribed our names on & affixed our seals this day & year above written

In the clerks office of Scott County the 20th day of June 1825. This Indenture of bargain and sale
from Absalom Hammons & Mary his wife to John McIver was acknowledged before me by the said
Absalom Hammons to be his act and deed admitted to record.
