Scott County, Virginia Deed Book 2, p. 155

This Indenture made this 9th of May in year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty
Between John Penly of Scott County and State of Virginia of the one part and Absalom Hammons of
the county and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration above of the
sum of one hundred and thirty to the said John Penly in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath granted bargained sold and by these present doth grant bargain and sell unto the
said Absalom Hammons a certain tract or parcel of land containing thirty acres be the same more or
less lying and being in the county of Scott on the waters of Copper Creek Beginning on a small sugar
tree a corner to Joshua Phillow and with his line N18 E78 poles to a walnut and buckeye on the north
bank of said creek thence up the same seed binding then on N79 E87 poles to a poplar and buckeye
sapling N70 E66 to a small black oak a corner to Reuben Matthews and with his line N170 W36 poles
to a white oak S73 E150 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold to the said
Absalom Hammons his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Penly for himself and his heirs the
said tract or parcel of land with all and singular of its appurtenances to the said Absalom Hammons his
heirs and assigns against the claim or claims whatever of all and every person or persons whatsoever
shall and will forever warrant and defend. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal the day and year that above written.

by the said John Penley and ordered to be recorded.
